4 Features About Look For In A Self-Storage Unit

Posted on

If you need to use a self-storage unit to keep some of your belonging in storage, there are a few features that you need to look for in your storage unit. You want to find a storage unit that offers insurance, has affordable pricing, solid security and extended hours.

#1 Insurance

The first thing you need to ask about when looking at self-storage units is what kind of insurance coverage they offer. Your homeowners or renter's insurance will generally offer some form of insurance that will extend to the items that you put in storage. However, that insurance coverage level may not cover all of your belongings, which is why it is a good idea to have an extra insurance coverage from your storage facility.

#2 Security

The second thing that you need to look into is how the facility keeps their units secure. To start with, figure out how people gain access to their storage units. Look for a facility that requires storage unit owners to use a key or personal code to get into the facility. This shows you that the storage facility is trying to limit who comes in and out of the facility.

Next, keep an eye out for security cameras. Security cameras can help deter people from stealing from the units. It can also make it easier to catch a thief should your unit be breached.

Then, look at physical security features, such as a fence around the facility or doors that limit access. There should be physical barriers that make it hard for just anyone to walk up to the storage unit.

#3 Hours

You need a storage unit that has hours that work with your schedule. If you work during the day and can only access your storage unit at night, look for a facility with evening access hours. If you can only access your storage unit early in the morning, look for a facility with early morning hours. Make sure that the hours of the facility match the hours that you can be available to use your storage unit.

#4 Affordable Prices

Finally, make sure that the prices for the unit are affordable. Look at the overall prices for the unit and see if there are any discounts that apply to you. Find out if you can get a better rate with longer rental terms. You should be able to afford a unit without feeling like you are breaking the bank.

When looking at storage facilities, pay attention to the insurance and rates, and look for a storage unit that has hours you can work with and security that makes you feel protected.  Contact a facility, like National Self Storage - Denver, for more help.
